Rough Trade East
Whereas some London record stores are struggling, this veteran indie-music specialist seems to have gotten the formula right—in 2007 it opened this spacious new East End branch that's as much a hangout as a shop, complete with a stage for live gigs, a café, and free airport access. Since opening Rough Trade East have won many awards including Music Week's Retailer Of The Year 08 & 09, NME say"it's the best record shop in the world".
The Kings Head
There has been a Kings Head Pub on this site in Upper Street since the 1500's. The current building dates from 1860. Our world renowned pub is known for its music and The King's Head Theatre at the back of the pub.
As well as a fine spirit selection, it has a great selection of good wine, real ale, lagers and bottled beers.
The authentic Victorian pub has roaring fires in winter and is decorated with photos of familiar faces who have graced the stage over its 40 year history. Founded in 1970, it was the first theatre pub in London since Shakespearean times...

The Royal Sovereign
The Royal Sovereign is a community pub in Clapton, E5, run for the past two years by two local people, Simon and David. In those two years it has gone from a run down dingy pub about to close forever to busy local and lively music and gig venue.
There are regular events,
including bands and DJs at the weekend, quiz nights, and during the
summer regular BBQs in the large beer garden. It is popular with
families, and children are made very welcome. Food is served in the
form of delicious gourmet 'pieminister' westcountry pies, and there are
plans for a summer salad menu.

The Vortex Jazz Club
Established in North London over 20 years ago, the club has become a beacon for progressive jazz in the capital. The programme of live music seven nights a week features sounds from across the breadth of the jazz idiom; from contemporary folk and world music to dub and electronica.
While we place a strong emphasis on young local talent with bands such as Ma, Outhouse, and Led Bib, we also regularly produce nights with leading world-class artists from both the UK and overseas: Kenny Wheeler and Evan Parker, New York’s Tim Berne and Jim Black, and European free-improv players such as Peter Brotzmann, Mats Gustafsson and Paal Nilssen-Love.
