Live at Your Local is a registered member of ICO. All details are protected under the 1998 Data Protection Act and will not be used for any other purposes other than advertising on the Live at Your Local website or weekly email listing.

Privacy Policy

1. General approach

LAYL strives to treat its audience with integrity and honesty. By visiting the site, you are accepting the practices described in this advertising and privacy policy. The LAYL site will develop and evolve over time, and this policy may change to reflect that. Such changes to any policy will be notified to Customers.

LAYL are registered with CIO to protect all your data under the 1998 Data Protection Act. LAYL are committed to protecting your privacy. We will not pass on your user details to any third party unless you have instructed us in writing or via email with your consent.

If LAYL change ownership we reserve the right to transfer all contact details collected for our email list and website to the new owner.

The subscriber always has the right to unsubscribe and can do so by visiting SUBSCRIBE TO MAILING LIST and then UNSUBSCRIBE on our website

2. Personal information

(i) LAYL does not require you to provide any personal information in order to be on our mailing list or access the website apart from your name and email address

However, if you choose to fill out any reader surveys, or subscribe to our LOCAL AND RECOMMENDED page or ADVERTISING on the website or provide any information as a PERFORMER or for any future pages that require your contact details you will be asked to supply some information about yourself, including your name, address, phone number and e-mail address and bank details if you are paying through by standing order from your bank.

LAYL reserves the right to keep track of the number of visitors to the site, the pages they visit, how long they stay and to collect information about how many clicks on advertisements.

Aggregate user information is collected for two reasons;

To help LAYL continually improve the services offered; and

To sell sponsorships on the site to appropriate advertisers, LAYL may disclose this information to advertisers.

3. Accessing your personal information

(i) LAYL will only keep your name and email address on its’ mailing list.

(ii) Any financial details such as credit card details will not be stored on the LAYL premises and bank account details for a standing order will be passed on directly to the bank of LAYL

(iii) Venue details will be on the venues page and a copy on the original form and written physically in a book for administrative purposes at the premises of LAYL

4. Third-party disclosure of personal information

(i) Links to other sites

LAYL contains links to other sites that are not under our control, even though some of them may feature the LAYL logo through a marketing agreement.

LAYL cannot be held responsible for the privacy policies of other companies. However, we will try to keep a check on this and not knowingly allow a link to a site that we are not happy with.

Customer must review the privacy policy of any site they visit on the Internet from which LAYL may receive a commission.

Required disclosures


LAYL will cooperate with all law-enforcement enquiries and reserves the right to disclose personally identifying or aggregate information in connection with a summons or other court-sanctioned demand for such information.

5. Collection of personal data from children

(i) LAYL is not directed to users under the age of 13.

(ii) LAYL will not knowingly

Collect information from individuals under the age of 13 ("Children");

Provide any personally identifying information collected from Children, regardless of its source, to any third party for any purpose whatsoever;

Information collected through the site from users self-identified as Children will not knowingly be used for any marketing or promotional purposes whatsoever, either inside or outside LAYL.

LAYL reserve the right at any point in the future to designate a separate section of the LAYL website for the attention and use of Children.

6. Cookies


(i) 'Cookies' are text files which are sent via your browser to your computer and stored on your hard disk, so that specific details about your visit to a website can be recorded, retrieved and analysed by the site during subsequent visits. Cookies in themselves do not identify individual users of sites, just the computer used.

(ii) LAYL may use cookies to collect anonymous data in order to improve the quality and performance of the website. Personal information is not stored in these cookies. Information voluntarily entered by visitors on the forms or sent to LAYL by email will be processed as outlined in the paragraphs above.

7. LAYL e-mail policy

Your email address will only be used to send out the weekly listing and for a letter once or twice a month which will keep you up to date on developments in LAYL, advertise music or other events, or tell you details of any cancellations that have occurred


LAYL reserve the right to request your email address on other pages on the site. In such circumstances, LAYL will ask you for your email address each time we make a new list, for example:

If you opted to be on a list of Shoreditch clubs, you would be asked to click on a “Shoreditch” button on the website or on the mailing list. Information given by the customer for any new listing or for any other reason will again be given voluntarily.

8. LAYL Weekly Listing Form

LAYL consents to send out a weekly listing form of events from subscribed venues, performers and community events (when notified), providing sufficient venues subscribe to it.

LAYL may also send letters and flyers once or twice a month to update LAYL news and about special performances, events and cancellations.

9. Security

(i) LAYL has invested, and will continue to invest, in the best-quality security available to guard access to information, data quality, and physical security of servers where information is stored. Our site has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Despite these efforts, no guarantee can be given that a third party will not obtain access to communications between you and LAYL.

Change of Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of 18th December 2008.


LAYL may change the Privacy Policy at any time. The Privacy Policy should therefore be revisited periodically by Customers and Users to ensure familiarity.

Continued use of the LAYL website following any modifications to the Privacy Policy will be deemed acceptance of the terms.

Nothing in this privacy policy is intended to impede LAYL’s right or ability to transfer, sell or otherwise dispose of any of its assets.

Venues Policy

1. LAYL agrees to send out the listing form each week on Tuesday or Wednesday prior to the Friday which is the first day of the LAYL weekly calendar of events. This will continue to happen 52 weeks a year unless LAYL encounters technical difficulties.

2. Venues, peroformers and non-paying community groups agree to submit the information they require for the months listing by the date stated by the reminder letter. Where late entries are submitted on a weekly basis they must be submitted by noon Monday the week before the list is sent (normally on the Tuesday prior to that listing week which starts on the Friday). If sent between 2-10 days prior to that week’s listing they will be listed. LAYL can not be held responsible if it is too late to advertise the event on time.

3. LAYL agrees to send two reminder emails on the 10th and 15th of every calendar month for the 17th day of the month deadline, for example. for the February monthly list:
  * LAYL’s 1st reminder would be sent on or 10thJanuary and the 2nd on the 15th of January.
  * Venues would need to submit the months listing form on or before 17th January.
  * Updates, 10 days prior to their event, can be submitted by 12noon on the Monday prior to the week of that listing .

4. The venue agrees to follow our writing guidelines (at the top of the listing form ) when writing their event details.

5. Where the venue has permission from the performers they agree to obtain and write all web links onto the form including; Myspace, Youtube and the appropriate websites.

6. The venue agrees to use the LIVE FROM YOUR LOCAL box wisely for best effect to advertise their venue. The limit for the number of words in this box is 150 characters (including spaces).

7. LAYL reserves the right to edit the text using our writing guidelines and where the text could be more concise.

8. It is free to advertise free events for Venues, performers and community groups. Events/performances that are ticketed require a 2/3 ticket exchange for LAYL staff. (for each performance or per week depending on agreement with LAYL ). To obtain their free tickets LAYL staff will be required to show the venue their staff pass.

Advertising Policy

1. General approach

(i) LAYL will permit advertising wherever possible, but any advert proposed will need to be approved by LAYL.

(ii) LAYL reserves the right to refuse any advertising, which it deems not to be appropriate.

(iii) The specific categories of organisations, products or services which may not advertise or be advertised on LAYL are as follows:
a. Political organisations
b. Manufacturers of tobacco products
c. Manufacturers of alcohol products
d. Advertising from any organisation associated with ‘adult industries’

(iv) The types or products and services which may not advertise or be advertised on LAYL are as follows:
a. Tobacco
b. Alcohol
c. Gambling
d. Pornography
e. Adult content
f. Any content or advertising which has an overtly sexual nature

(v) Advertisers will not have any influence over editorial content or reviews that appear on LAYL.

2. Advertising procedures
(i) Website adverts are posted in blocks of 2,3 and 6 months  Local and Recommended adverts are posted in blocks of 6 and 12months.  The month will start at the beginning of each calendar month.
Special Offers and Noticeboard adverts that appear on the weekly email listing are in blocks of 1,2,3,and 4, weeks.  

(ii) In unusual circumstances it will be possible to advertise Website adverts on weekly basis up to and including the 3 month period. Any advertising on this basis is at the sole discretion of LAYL.

(iii) The weekly fee for advertising will be calculated using the monthly fee as a baseline and agreed with the client verbally and then by email. (Current prices will be on the website).

(iv) An advert will not be varied or used for another purpose without the prior consent of the Customer by phone, email or written letter. LAYL reserves the right to edit the  text to make the advert visually more readable and textually more concise.  In this case LAYL would check the final version with the Customer before posting it on the website.  If delays are due to LAYL editing, the term of advertising will be extended accordingly.

(v) The Customer will pay by Paypal or standing order and in exceptional circumstances, and only with the express permission of LAYL, by cash or cheque within 3 days of receiving their confirmation acceptance email. Instructions regarding payment will be sent by LAYL to the Customer by email.

(vi) In the case of Website and Local and Recommended adverts a renewal letter will be sent out a week before the advertising term is over with any changes in the terms and conditions. If the client wants to renew the term they will have 7 days to make the payment through Paypal or to renew their standing order. If no payment is received then when the term is up the advert will be removed from the website.

(vii) The advert will be kept on the files of LAYL till 31st December of the year after the end of the advertising term unless the client requests for its’ deletion. LAYL reserves the right to refuse inappropriate adverts or in exceptional cases where we are unhappy as to the source of the advertising and the implications for our LAYL readership.

(viii) LAYL undertakes to keep adverts posted for the agreed length of time. Where there are technical or other time delay problems and LAYL accepts responsibility, the length of agreed advertising will be extended accordingly.
